Those little junkies are smart to be quiet!

You would think with all the money those farmers can make that they would buy some kind of fencing (like an aviary for plants)

I was thinking the same! (Which means they haven't tried everything yet!) I was cracking up when I saw the birds fly off with the opium pod!

I hope they think of netting the crop before they think of culling the Parrots.
I'm also hoping so too, and in Hawaii we also have the IRNs eating the fruits and veggies from farms and I'm not so sure if they're gonna try to find a more safer way to keep the birds away, the last time I heard was that they were thinking of culling the birds.. My bird was actually a wild IRN and I found her at 3 months, the vet even told me if i don't want the bird, they'll put it down due to the fact that it's an invasive specie. :(

The farmers are not the ones making the money. :)

@Riptide Queen thats so sad and scary. Glad you kept the beauty! Your an awesome person!
Thank you so much!! I even told the vet "how could you ask me such a question when two little black eyes are looking right at me through the towel? It's a life long commitment and I will take her. She deserves a second chance."

Which he wasn't happy but gave me a few pamphlets for parrot care.

Are we sure parrots can become addicted to opium? @Hankmacaw

@Lady Jane I would say yes, based on the fact that Tramadol is a common pain killer for parrots and it is an opioid and parrots develop an addiction to Tramadol. When taking a parrot off of Tramadol you must wean them off over a period of time or they have withdrawl symptoms.

Interesting, since humans really can't get addicted to tramadol; we've never had a patient like that. But interesting how different species work.
