I have no idea what happened.
I found her at the bottom of her cage early this morning.
This comes after the first day that her and Duckie shared snuggles and preens which I made a couple videos about here. It makes me think Duckie may have sensed something to share a day like that with her. I don’t know.
She was happy and energetic until I put her to bed. She protested bed time a little more than usual last night.
She had an appointment a couple weeks ago where the vet said she had a slightly slow heartbeat but he didn’t think the tests would be helpful because of the stress and risk and difficulty of them. I made a post about that too.
I don’t know what to do. Should I take her body to be examined?
I let Duckie see her body before I removed it. He’s been quiet and sitting on my shoulder all morning. I am so sad for him.

Oh no! Oh my gosh I'm so so sorry! This is so tragic especially after yesterday's adorable vids. I'm hope those vids will bring you happy memories in this sad time.

Thank you @Emma&pico and @April

I am just stunned I think. Duckie is extra quiet and just wanting to be wrapped up in my hand.
I called the vet and they do not offer a necropsy service, so I can’t do that.
They are going to call me back about getting a fecal sample from Duckie. I want to get whatever information I can.
I’m just so sad.

Are there any veterinary schools in your state or other vet offices you can contact to ask?
I'd feel absolutely the same and I definitely agree with getting her checked just to be on the safe side. Was Paloma older? I just saw what you said about the slower heartbeat and ill bet that was the culprit.
I lost Nala from heart disease that hadn't even shown up on xrays taken less than a year before I lost her. Their little hearts are unfortunately so fragile that it's so common to lose them from those issues.
Perhaps it was something unrelated but if it was me I'd think that was the cause.

@April I imagine it was that. I don’t know. The vet did talk about the option of an X-ray but he said she was so small it probably wouldn’t show up. Plus I’d have to fly to Denver with her to have it done. And then he said even if it did show something there would be little to be done about it.

I'm so very sorry. Oh the little sweetie :sad3:
A slow heartbeat best is a very serious thing, and yet the risks so very high with that and investigation further. I feel you made the right decisions 100%
Paloma and Duckie got to share such a beautiful moment of love . There was no stress or suffering. Just so much love . That you have forever to remember her by.

@April I will check today to see if there is anywhere else I can bring her to. My vet didn't think there was anywhere else.

@MommyBird Thank you so much :( Yes, it is a shock. I don't even know what to think.

@Pixiebeak You are so kind. Thank you. I'm really sad but it does help some that she had such a loving day with Duckie yesterday. I'm disappointed for him because I really was so happy that after all this time he opened his heart up to her.

@Emma&pico I read about your Pico. I'm really sorry.

I just love how she went on a little ride on his tail. Enjoying the sunshine, love and preening with a friend. Such a happy birdie. I pray my last day is like this

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss :(

So lovely that you were able to film such a beautiful video of them both together yesterday- sweet and sour at the same time but when the feelings of loss have all settled and are not so raw I am really hoping that footage brings you a warm heart and a massive smile.

I took her little body into the vet today to get cremated. They said I’ll have her ashes back in about 2 weeks.
I also took in a fecal sample from Duckie, just to make sure I have the full picture.
Our hearts are aching and Duckie is constantly contact calling which is very unusual for him. Sometimes I think he is looking for her as it doesn’t necessarily stop when I’m in the room.
I know we all just need time to figure it out.
