Setup for multi-room, medium bird
1~ What kind of birds do you have and how many birds did you design your setup for?
I have one African Grey Parrot named Babalu
2~ Is your setup for a handicapped bird?
No
3~ Are there any budgeting tips you discovered while doing your setup?
Budget? What budget it took me years to get where I'm at right now with bird items. A lot of them were Birthday and Christmas gifts. I do most of my non food shopping during the Sidewalk Sale. My guy is not very destructive (except for MPBT and AA wood) so toys and supplies usually last a good while with him.
4~ Is your setup changeable or stationary and do you add or make changes continually or do things stay primarily as is?
I keep his main perches and water bottle in the same position but I do switch out his toys.
In this pic you can also see we hung the Rabbit Air cleaner right behind the cage (husband has allergies).
5~ Where did you purchase the setup and do you have favorite places to purchase safe toys and/or supplies that you find reliable?
His cage is from Expandable Habitats
It's a "small" cage, the 4830.
Expandable Habitats - Small stainless steel cages
We have a Unipod stand and large size Wingdow from Wingdow
WINGDOW®, Elegant avian furniture
I have a small addiction for Avian Stainless
Welcome to Avian Stainless ~ Parrot Toys with Attitude
And he loves his atom, rope perches, spring swing, loop swing and wood from MPBT
Mother Pluckin' Bird Toys - Home of the ATOM
And wood from Avian Antics Parrot Boutique
6~ Do you have a favorite item that you bought for your setup?
I think the atom and Wingdow are my favorite items.
7~ If you made any DIY toys what is your bird(s) favorite?
I'm not very creative, but I can refill skewers
And I did make him a shower/mirror perch. He loves to sit in the bathroom while we give the kids baths.
8~ Did you incorporate into your setup any foraging toys and how did your bird(s) take to them?
I feed his pellets out of the see saw forager and then he gets a couple treats and nuts out of his foraging wheel. I do have a ton of foragers that I switch out but his see saw is always there. He is usually pretty good at figuring out the different foragers really fast.
9~ What difficulties did you encounter, if any and how did you remedy them?
Sometimes at night, he falls from his perch. So when I ordered the new cage I got the short one to lessen the fall.
10~ What do you like least about your set up (if anything)?
I'm not very satisfied on the cage location... I don't think he loves it either. This house is a bit awkward on this level with the open space. For some reason he gets nervous/anxious when the front and slider doors open. Plus, he is not clipped and I'm always freaking out about that when he is loose and we go through the doors. I've been thinking about moving him down a level, which is half below ground and currently the tv/toy area, and moving the tv and couch up. There is a window down there but it's still kind of dark so I would need to get better lighting for him. I would leave the atom or some kind of stand for him on the main level.
Currently set up on kitchen level
11~ What do you like most about your setup?
I love the cage. It's super easy to clean being stainless and having the paper roll system.
12~ Did your bird(s) take to the setupright away or did they approach it tentatively needing time to adjust and do you feel their age was a factor?
He was good with the cage... it's new perches that he gets weirded out about, so I leave the main perches where they are. He still won't sit on his hew cage door perch the cage company sent
13~ Any future renovations planned?
I have been on the look out for a good quality aviary. It would need to come apart in panels to be stored in the winter... I think?? And I also want to add a java tree soon.
