I like #2 too because you can see more of the contrast between the light and dark.

#2 most definitely stands out much more and shows the tree line a little clearer. I do also like #1, it is a little more intense.

I like #1. It feels more impactful, the small clouds around the edges of the second one take some of the focus off of the beams coming through the center.

I prefer #1 but if I were selecting for a painting i’d Go with #2.
