i feed a group of wild crows here in remote Port Alice (500 population). They follow me in and out of the village too. Lately, one keeps swooping extremely close to my head. It is mid September so there are no fledgling near by. Do you know what this can mean? They do tend to fly very close to me so I don't miss them and not throw them a treat, he he.

They are hungry  crows are very smart, they probably just want more food. But then again I'm no crow except

i'm not a crow expert either but it could possibly be something to do with being territorial

I love crows! I'm not sure, maybe he's just trying to get closer to you for a treat? Or maybe it's a a sign meant for the other crows, kind of like, "Go away, she's feeding me!" I would think that they like you and get excited when they see you. They know you are friendly and not a threat, so it seems like it wouldn't be an attack.

Do you throw more treats when they do that?

These answers make sense. I know they wait for me and get excited when they see me. But I don't throw treats when the crow swoops so close to my head. I stick to feeding only in the forest by the village. This happens when I first start walking towards the forest. They are already there and walk/fly with me into the forest.

Corvids are ridiculously intelligent birds. If they recognise you as a food source they will have no issues bullying it out of you every now and then! Probably just the odd over-confident bird who is more than happy to see if he can get a bit more than the others ;)

Well, today, I definitely felt little feet hit my head... not trying to land on my head, I hope, lol.
It's a new game - tag the human! The crow that gets the best direct head contact wins! ;)
