I have a Male White Capped Pionus! The only bird I have that I didn’t name.
He had 6 homes before he came to me.
He is a ball of fire, and only ever is nice to me (if I change my appearance, he is a ball of fire to me until he gets used to it).
He had what me and my vet refer to as ‘double beak’ and he was so overweight he couldn’t fly.
The cage he came from had no toys, and he was actually scared of toys.
He even had bubble feet from where he only had dowel rods to perch on.
At first, he wouldn’t let me come within 2 feet of him without attacking me.
Now, he is of healthy weight, is flight trained, is very attached to me, has a healthy diet of harrisons, fruit, veggies, and seeds/nuts, and has a normal beak!
And guess whattt- he now likes toys! Each problem had to be addressed separately health wise, but now he seems to be a more confident, healthy bird. His favorite food is even broccoli now.
We are still working on easing anxiety around new people, and we are doing well so far. When new people come over, he gets a specific treat, one of his favorites from the new person. He takes them gladly, but whenever it comes to when there are no treats in their hand, he is a ball of fire yet again.
Enjoy some pictures of Hiccup!
