I was concerned about the discoloration of the area just above cere. (see photo) I though it may have been a fungus and that scared me. My vet is a long time avian certified vet who is also cost conscious and will not do unnecessary treatments. He has a very good rep. round the world.

Anyway off we went today. Murphy was a really good boy. He was quiet during the ride and sang is heart out in the waiting room along with 3 African Greys waiting to be seen for grooming. Turns out that gray area above cere is full of pin feathers and he rubs this area on perches quite often. Thus the skin has suffered a bit. Vet noticed that one of his nares was blocked. With what? Vet said it could be many things from dust to seed hulls inhaled. Murphy is now receiving Cipro eye drops for 5 days via the nares - not the eyes. We have a follow up visit in 6 days. Hopefully this will be all that is needed to clear the nares.

Guess this may be one time you may want your bird to "pick the nose" so to speak.

Feel better soon Murphy! Those meds are a nasty necessity once in a while.

It's easy to get photos of them because they are calm birds. That's the English Budgie reputation.
Mug shot :excited3:

Murphy's upper cere is looking a bit better. Still massive pin feathers which I am gently working on. He is still getting the antibiotic drops until finished. He is now on vitamins in the water for enhanced growth of new feathers. Its called Nekton Bio. Anyone familiar with these?
