I ended up with this guy a while back and have no clue what his color is called. The red eyes are kind of cute. If you're savvy on color coats, feel free to let me know.

He doesn't seem to have an aggressive nature but is still getting used to me, eventually I'll train him like one of my last males that would ride on my shoulder around the house (that's the hope at least). I'm hoping in another week his need to claim everything in his territory dies down. Male mice make excellent pets, regardless what people say about the smell.

I named him Petrie, kudos to you if you know where that name comes from without googling the cartoon.

He's a cutie!
We had mice for a sort while as a kid. I remember the male mice smelling.
Maybe they smell more when they are with females? Who knows but same with male cats who will go around spraying urine
marking there territory all over the house. That's why we had male cats neutered.

Mice. gerbils, hamsters & rabbits...had em.
Maybe a turtle at times & of course cats & dogs.
Mom had alot of canaries & we had a parakeet once but it was not tame.
Never a snake

Thanks :)
Never kept turtles but I didn't want a 40 yr aquatic commitment either :hehe:
Not too keen on dogs with how much I'm allergic to them :banghead:
I'd love to have rabbits but their need for hay and me being sensitive to hay means no rabbits :meh:
And I've had one my snakes for 13 years this yr and hope to have him a lot longer :D

You can technically neuter mice but since I don't know if it would ultimately help with the smell I don't think the risk is worth it. Male mice just seem to have to mark their territory :dead:

Except for one female, all my male mice have been a lot friendlier over the years. This guy is a little bit heftier than I had expected in terms of body fat but he overall has been healthy so far.

Please excuse all my misspellings! Ha!

Not sure what the technical color would be in a mouse, but usually the red eyed tan guinea pigs and linked with the lilac/beige coloration (or REO) and chinchillas are called beiges.

In alpacas, we called that fawn, medium or dark, I can't tell from that pic. Not sure if mice have their own colour schemes.

He most definitely is named after a dinosaur named from The Land Before Time :D
His cage theme is a dinosaur one so it stuck even if he can't fly
It's like a chocolate/brown dog is a liver in ESS, but a red in Dobemrans.

I found a neat mouse color chart - maybe yours is a Recessive Yellow? Varieties of Mice ~ Self Color Types
It does look like a recessive yellow, thanks!
