Rocky, my almost 16 year old maroon belly conure, and Scout, my 6 year old rehomed nanday conure, had their routine blood work done recently. Both had elevated bile acids and Scout had elevated LDH. They werent sky high, but mildly elevated. Both birds do seem healthy (actually rambunctious) and Scout does eat pellets. The vet suggested it could be early liver failure but that they might be recovering from an enteritis or it could be lab error (specimens were hemolyzed). For now, he is recommending milk thistle and suggested a Tibetian brand, which I cant find. Anyone have recommendations for milk thistle?

I'm wrong - Sarah's is much cheaper - it's 60ml for the same price.

Gizmo only tolerated the Avitech one. I tried to use the one ML uses but she somehow could tell the difference! We also used milk thistle seeds and powder from Frontier Natural Products on Amazon.

Thanks guys! I am sorry I didnt see the other posts. @sunnysmom That is good to know about the senior nutriberries. I'll look at ordering those.

How do you guys give the milk thistle? Do you put it in or on something?

I gave the liquid in drinking water, baked the powder into bird bread, and fed the seeds mixed into her dry food bowl.

Syringe...it's really nasty tasting though but for those with poor livers like Julip, I want to make sure I get it in.

Use the seeds and sprinkle it on whatever I am feeding, like the chop.
