Meet Dexter!!!

Well, I've done it again! Please meet Dexter, my new 1.5 year old Scarlet baby! His owner turned him in due to financial reasons. She also got a puppy at the same time as this guy, but the puppy won.

He came in with the name 'Trump', but that name's certainly not going to stay with him.
Without further adieu, here he is!!!

Congratulations He's such a handsome boy. Sad that his last owner couldn't keep him but if they pick the puppy over him I wonder if they got over their heads with him Anyway I'm glad he has a soft place to land with you

Thanks everyone! He was a pistol getting out of their cage, but once out he became the biggest love bug ever! They used a net to get him out, so I'm convinced that once he sees coming out of his cage doesn't have to be a traumatic experience he'll be fine.

I can already kiss his beak and cuddle him while he's lying on his back. Gentle love nibbles...so far haha!

Yeah negative experiences can lend to setbacks. I'm sure that's the reason you had a hard time getting him out. With a little time and patience I'm sure you'll have no trouble getting him out

His cage won't arrive for another week, so until then he'll have to hang out on Shaylor's A&E perch and sleep in a smallish cage at night. He'll be sequestered back in my bedroom away from my flock for the next 30 days.
I've never had a clipped bird before. Not used to having them stay in one place!
They clipped him before he'd fledged, so I'm hoping he'll learn what wings are for once his flight feathers grow back in.

The Central American subspecies has a wider band of yellow than the other subspecies. However, the subspecies have been bred with each other extensively, so it could be a trait that the breeders have selectively bred for. There is always a possibility that he is a pure Central American scarlet macaw though.

Dexter is beautiful! So glad you changed his name! I named my last childhood dog Dexter. Actually, it was Dexter Sodapop after some characters in the book, The Outsiders.
