My lovie Joey has been home for 3 days. I was a total stranger to him but he's been doing well in his new environment. He's eating, drinking, climbing around his cage, and even cries when I leave the room! He's very afraid of my hands but he likes to hop on my shoulder and go for rides or chill there while I study. While he's on my shoulder, he likes to groom himself and although he doesn't like my hands, he lets me nuzzle his neck and head feathers with my nose and cheek.

I just want to know if this is a good way to build trust and to get him to trust me and want him to spend time with me? He seems quite content when he's sitting here with me and lets me show him affection. I want him to be a happy and healthy boy because even though it's only been three days I love him so much!

Thank you

Yes, spending time with him in any positive way will help build his trust. Will he take treats from your hands? That might help too. Just remember to go at his pace, and never force him to do anything he doesn't want to do. You should also have a playstand or a place where he can play when he is out of his cage that is not on you, but nearby. This will help him to spend time and learn to entertain himself. Sounds like you have a sweet little friend there!
