Love birds are very timid but wonderful birds. Depending on the breeder/home they came from their temperament is very diverse. My two are adorable but don't like to be held very often, BUT! They love to fly around and be free, often chasing me around the house and playing with me.
If you're alright with semi-loud birds, they can be a great choice, mine are quite loud when they want attention, however they know when it's lights out and bed time that means be quiet and sleep.

My lovebirds are mostly cuddly, but very spirited and have a ton of personality. They tend to be aggressive towards other birds and sometimes animals and like to get into everything. It’s a full-time job keeping these little troublemakers safe! They are also great chewers and escape artists.
I do not recommend housing them in cages that’s have doors that raise and lower. If already in such a cage with no options, secure the doors safely to prevent the lovie from opening them (they can hurt or kill themselves with those “guillotine” style doors). They should have a cage with space to fly (best would be a 32x21 flight cage), bars no more than .5” apart.
They love toys they can destroy or make noise with: seagrass, balsa or other soft woods, cork, bells, etc. Swings are a must!

They are very active and love to get into everything as well. They have to know what you are doing when they are out and will follow you from room to room to keep and eye on you. They love water and taking baths and are very spry and love to show off their flying skills even if it causes you to dodge them like a bullet. Any material is fair game for them to chew on as well from purses to mini-blinds.

Lovebirds are just like humans as in they are all individuals with different personalities. They are often feisty but sweet, small but incredibly active, beaky but loving, loud but not as loud as some. They really are delightful birds!!
