Kitt - crop infection

Hi everyone, We areat vet looks like Kitt has crop infection. He is in an incubator.

I don’t have any experience with this has anyone else?

Many of us have experienced a crop infection in our birds - it is not all that uncommon. Your vet will give you an antibiotic if it is a bacterial infection or an antifungal if it is a fungus infection. Ask your vet about giving probiotics for as long as your bird is on medications.

Just do what the Dr. instructs you to do and all will be fine.

I am holding thumbs. Kitt is remaining at vet. I can see him again in a few hours.

They put meds into his water, if no improvement further steps will be taken.

In my opinion, meds in water are squat..some birds dont drink often enough or get the full amount. Best to get a " suspension " that is given orally, As @Hankmacaw said, we've all dealt with it. A few days of meds and he will be feeling better. Just make sure hes eating and drinking, some meds can cause appetite loss.

Kitt made it through the evening, and has slightly more energy. So I feel a little more hopeful.

Hi all,

An update on Kitt, he is a little stronger today

He is unfortunately his own worst enemy, and has not eaten all today, so he may need to be fed via a tube tomorrow.

I am cautiously optimistic that he will make a full recovery.

So sorry that Kitt is ill. Sending positive thoughts that he will be better soon.
If you go to the vet to visit him bring him some of his favorite foods.

Poor Kitt though this may explain his weight loss. I’m glad you were able to get him to a vet & it’s great to here he’s doing better. That poor guy had such a rough start but you are being great parronts in getting him care and healthy again. Best regards.
