Toss the string. Just give him the beads. :)
Those are tiny.
Has Rudy ever met another red-bellied parrot?

No he hasn’t. And he can’t crack unstrung beads. He pokes his beak into the hole which is predictably lined up onthe string.

Yes he has. When his ailing parents returned him to the breeder after four years he met other rbs.

Sad that his parents became ill but he found a super wonderful home with you and yours.
Seems that he had a very good breeder, too.

The string stabilizes the bead and makes it easier for him to crack them. Interesting.

I tried to send him back! He was very sweet in quarantine and for a few days after merging with the flock I handled him very badly, trying to impose my will on him. He bit the snot out of me and I called the breeder and gave him a hard time. He said I don’t understand, Rudy is very easygoing but if you like, take him to the pet store and swap him out with some other bird. Luckily I straightened myself out and it’s been smooth sailing since. He was my first rehome and didn’t want to cuddle and I was used to baby birds. I was like like it or not you ARE going to cuddle with me. And he has like I don’t think so. What a nightmare parent I was for a week!

It's good that you didn't give up. It was just different in the beginning because he was an older bird, not a baby like you were used to. He probably missed his previous family, too, but it obviously worked out well. Rudy is a lucky guy.

I'm assuming that his previous parents might have been German and that they would say that when he bit so he sort of generalized the association and now says the word instead of biting.
