I just recently rescued a blue and gold macaw from a severely neglectful situation! I named her Chiquita btw! I've already set up an exotic avian vet appt for her, but the earliest one they had wasn't until the 1st week of March 2024! I really need to know if this is what her poop should look like? When I 1st got her to my home. Her poop was extremely foul smelling and very very watery! They were only feeding her seeds and peanuts! She gets a well balanced fruit/veggie breakfast and pellets for dinner and a multivitamin in her water! She also has a full spectrum uva/b sun lamp, now that's she's with me! Her poop is no where near as watery as it was when I first got her but it still has an extremely foul smell! If this is not what her poop should look like, I would really like to know if it's an emergency situation that needs to be dealt with immediately through an emergency vet (which doesn't specialize in exotic birds in my area) or can it wait till the 3rd of March when she will be seeing an exotic bird specialist? She has an amazing appetite and drinks plenty of spring water! She is pretty energetic and gets plenty of exercise! Thank you for any advice y'all can give me! It's very appreciated!

It doesn't look normal to me: it still looks watery. Of course, the change in diet and situation would play a role in her GI tract. I wouldn't worry unless you notice more symptoms. At the vet, make sure to get a blood panel and gram stain at the least. What pellets is she eating? They can have a profound impact on poop appearance, just like some fruits.

Some macaws really do just have disgusting poop but... without a history to confirm wellness it could look better. It's a dirty grey color which I don't see here ( and I have a few macaws ).

I would want to know a list of foods being eaten and a picture of the sweetie to tell you how comfortable I feel waiting a month for vet.

She's on zupreem fruit blend pellet! Thank you! I'll definitely ask the vet to do that!

In the morning I give her a different variety of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables. Bell peppers, beets, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, mustard and collard greens, peas, green beans, mango, asparagus, pineapple, apple, pear, peach, strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, grapes, pomegranate. Every morning she gets a different variety of the above that I dust with nori seaweed for iodine and 2 tbsp. of a mixture of crushed walnuts, pecans, peanuts, almonds and Brazil nuts. At night She gets a half cup of zupreem fruit blend pellets soaked in spring water that I mix with a powdered macaw multi vitamin. She is missing all her feather's on her stomach and tail. The person I rescued her from didn't speak English. I understand enough Spanish to get me by but not fluent at it. What Igathered was his daughter had her and her mate since they were weaned she then gave the male to her cousin and the one I rescued to her father. Why she did this I don't know! I tried to get them to give me the male too but the cousin refused! He said she began plucking her own feathers out and the diarrhea started not too long after. He was afraid to handle her and never cleaned her cage. It took my husband 5 hours to power wash her cage when we got her here! I soaked her in my tub the whole 5 hours he was washing her cage. She had so much caked poop on her feather's it still wasn't off after that first soak. I had to soak her an additional 5 times a few days apart to finally get her clean. Since she's been here she's not plucked one feather. Her poop smells atrocious. It isn't as watery as it was the week I first got her. It had improved a little!

That picture was when i 1st got her here. She had no toys so i made her some that day until what i ordered for delivered. She's also missing the tip of one of her toes. Since then I've gotten her different foraging toys, uva/b lamp for birds a warm winter nesting box, calcium and sand perches, calcium blocks and a self water feeder instead of the bowl so she isn't drinking her poop she also has the heating lamp to keep her warm.
