Sisal rope and crepe myrtle branches (I have a tree in my yard that grows like crazy, so I always have branches available for projects). The rope is too thick to easily hang smaller toys on, so I threaded quick links onto the rope as I made it and can just attach toys to those. Took a bit to work out how to do the crown knot, but once I got the idea, it wasn't bad. It's sturdy enough to support the big swing, too!
It's kind of lopsided and won't win any beauty contests, but for a first attempt, I'm really happy with the results, and the only material I had to purchase was the rope, so the whole shebang only cost about $15.
