2 years I have been trying to get a photo of a tui bird.

Well tonight at horse riding I just happened to have the camera on when a young male landed in the garden near the tack room.

Its not the best photo but I didnt have long to get the shot as was standing so close and my 4 year old son was about to run around the corner LOL

What a neat bird with a strange voice! What are the two little cottonballs on their throat for?

Thanks for the link & the picture. I take it this is a shy, or rare bird to see? Titanis is right, you are lucky and have an amazing country! I joined a NZ fish forum a few years back. Wonderful people there, and they shared many photos of the beautiful scenery and interesting creatures you have.:)

How cool is that, they have the same diet as my honeycreepers! I will be doing some reading today, thanks again.:hug8:

I love the grey feathers on the back of the head.

I brightened your picture up a little, is it ok to post it?

Wow, lucky you. I'm so glad you had your camera ready. I guess if you live in such a beautiful country may as well do as the tourists do and have it at all times :)

The video was so interesting Titanis, thank you. He's very beautiful.

oh yes please post away :D

they are not rare, in fact we have a family of them in our garden at home. The problem is that they are quick in flight, eratic at times in their flight paths and the wing beat is sooooo loud! Their song though is AMAZING!
