My dad said we can't have anymore parakeets in our house so he's making me take the nest out. I'm thinking of just "forgetting" and next time they lay eggs, I'll play the 'but that's cruel card' on him. We have 8 lil' parakeets by the way..

Another unfortunate case of bird hoarding in Pittsburgh . The parrot rescue I volunteer with partnered with the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh to remove 167 Cockatiels from someones attic. They were in deplorable conditions and fed a diet of bread, pasta, and cheerios. Thankfully they are safe now and will be going vet checks and disease testing. Most are feral but some will eat out of your hand. There was a lot of inbreeding going on as they had free reign of the filthy attic. Word is they are eating everything and will hopefully make a full recovery.
So if anyone is interested in adopting Cockatiels in the Pittsburgh PA area, there are plenty to go around!

This situation was exacerbated by uncontrolled breeding. Notice that the word "inbreeding" was used.

As a pet owner it is your responsibility to limit breeding to the number of available homes.

I know, I just feel bad doing it. I've been an animal lover my whole life and even when my aunt said she took eggs out of the nest of her parakeets because she didn't want more parakeets I got sad. Still, it was worth a try to 'forget to take it out'. I'll take the nest out when I have time today. Thanks for the convincing.
