I would call the florist and find out if anything was sprayed on them.

He chewed the edges off of several blooms. There is quite a bit of shredded flower around so I don't know how much he really ate. They came from the grocery and they don't have a clue how they may have been prepared.

I would still call a florist and ask them if they know if supermarket roses are sprayed with anything. They should be knowledgeable. :)

call a florist and ask them how the roses are prepared 'in general'

rose blooms are very delicate, most any kind of spray, even the oil from your fingers, will leave dark spots so they may not have anything on them

(Marie and I are on the same wavelength today ;) )

You have to love a vet who gives you his cell phone number for emergencies. I called Dr Burkett and he said that the 2 potential problems are GI issues and chemical burns in his mouth. We need to keep an eye on his behavior and watch him for vomiting and diarrhea for the next 2 hours. If we don't see anything by then it is likely that everything will be OK.

Dr B also said that toxins like that could have dissipated between the time they were packed and shipped and then having been set out for almost a week.

Dr Burkett always answers my questions every time. I told him if I ever move to NC he will be my avian vet for sure.

Thank God Howard is ok.
