1. Cut off the selvage (not fleeced part of fabric) This is the selvage:

2. Then fold against the stretchy side. I lost my yardstick so I used the measuring tape and I made a mark in the fleece.

3. Snip snip snip VIOLA!

4. Repeat with baby blue and pale yellow:

5. I love fleecy perches!

Few Tips:
-Make sure the fleecy is going the stretchy way when you cut it. This way you can stretch your perch.
-I used the selvage to tie the ends. Doesn't look that nice.........but the birds like it!
-Tie the ends of the perch with a rubber band so its easier to hold it in between your knees.

Good luck and have fun!

Well, look at you! You are doing great! That looks wonderful! :dancing:

Question: Are you braiding that onto something?

Ah, that is great that you took up an interest in getting some fabric to make it... seeing that you are a fella and that is great! Now, when does the sewing lessons start? :hehe: No, really, I think it is awesome that you are making that for your birdies and the colors you chose look great together ... oh and above I had asked, which you did not answer in your above post - did you wrap/braid the fleece around something? Just curious!

Nope, I just held it between my knees and braided! I actually learned how to braid a year ago...............LOL

Just a thought, if I tied the end knots onto a dowel perch, won't that make it a comfy perch? Oh and Sorry for not seeing that question Jan!

I never thought of using fleece for a perch, but I make exactly the same thing as a tug toy for the dog! Great idea!

It might, though if the whole thing isn't attached going down, it might just be a regular perch with the braided fleece hanging next to it (when it stretches out, or if it falls to the bottom side of the perch it might not work out as "comfy" ;))
What you might be able to do though is braid the perch into it, or do some sort of a braidy type wrap job around the perch so that way it can't be separated from the dowel perch :D
They look great, I might take some examples and see what I can do!! This might give me something to do while I'm waiting for my baby bird to come home!! :D

Yes, you can use a dowel rod as the core, and braid AROUND it. You would need to do it tightly, and prestretch the fleece very very well. If you know how to do a four square knot with four strips, it would work very well. You could also do this around stainless steel wire and make a boing!
