Hi! We have a Red Fronted Macaw who is a little bit over a year old. We are looking for a caique to adopt but taking our time.

Someone else from a different board from one of my hobbies recommended this site to learn more and chat about our birds so here I am!

Hello from Seattle!:hug8:

Hello! Isn't Washington awesome? I'm nestled between Vancouver and Portland. :) I ADORE RFMs! Please, post pictures!

What made you decide on a Caique?

We had a friend and his two caiques stay in our guest room for a while. Our family is in love with caiques now. Their cuddliness, the antics, and their just general overall personalities! If my kids were birds, my son is caique and my daughter is an RFM. lol

All I can say is: DO YOUR RESEARCH. Caiques are known to have a VERY, VERY rough and violent hormonal period. We have had several members here, along with myself, with battle-scares from Caiques. My experience was with a white-belly, who pierced my nostril and tore a chunk off my eyebrow. Just be sure to read, read, read and ask yourself if they really are a good fit. :)

Don't worry. I used to work as a vet tech......I know how they can be and have seen the ups AND downs. This is not a decision we are taking lightly.

Welcome from a fellow Cascadian! RFMs are really fun and smart. What species of Caique are you looking at?
