Checking out the neighborhood
Hi everyone.
I am very new to world of birds but have about 8yrs of experience in tropical fish keeping.
My interest in birds starts with a pair of Zebra finches whom I have housed in a cage that is
76cm x 45cm x 90cm/ 30 x 18 x 35 (inches). I originally got this cage and birds as a store credit at my local pet store for fish that I had traded in and have fallen in love with these little beauties ever since and two weeks ago they laid 5 eggs and in the last two days 4 have hatched and I am crossing my fingers that the last one hatches by tomorrow.
Since keeping fish for a number of years and having made and learned from my mistakes over those years(There were many I admit it!!), I have come to realise the responsibilities of taking care of an animal and so I would love to further my knowledge base and keep a few more different types of species over the course of this year. My main interests for the moment are in this order:
1. Society finches
2. Owl finches
3. Budgies
4. Red head parrot finches and Sea green finches
5. One Cockatiel
I would love to have each species housed separately for the reason that I would love to note their behaviors and sometime in the future I would love to setup a mixed aviary or 2 if space permits but for now I'd love to stick to the current Zebra finch setup I have going on.
My policy in keeping any animal is that they should be able to thrive and not just survive so looking forward to getting lots of advice and hints from the experts on this forum .
