We just found a small open sore on the belly of one of our kitties. I'll call the vet in the morning. He's a 15 year old indoor cat. My baby since college. :(
Please send good vibes for Mr. Schizo.

Prayers that it's just an ordinary boo boo and will get all better with a good cleaning and neosporin.

Thanks again everyone! As Ginger had suggested it isn't a major issue. While it isn't a normal boo-boo, it isn't life threatening. I was very worried considering his age.

The lesion was closer to his bum rather than on his belly. As soon as the vet saw it she said "I know what is going on here." As yucky as this is she said that he had an anal sac rupture. Said it was probably inflamed or blocked from infection and that he had done a good job of cleaning it up himself. He is now on antibiotics and we go back for a visit at the end of the month. The vet said this is uncommon for cats but fairly common in small dogs.

While at the vet today I asked about the average lifespan for indoor male cats...the vet just said, "he's old." He doesn't act it though and I think that is all that matters! :p

My sweet Bronwyn lived to be almost 18. I miss her everyday. As well as the boys Raja and Rameses.

:hug8: Glad to hear it's nothing serious. Praying it heals up with no problems. My husbands indoor cat lived to be 19.

I have 2 old male cats (brothers) that have both had this problem. My vet said it's fairly common in the old guys. Both of them pretty much took care of it themselves - we just did antibiotics after the fact also. I got dire warnings of how this would probably happen repeatedly, but neither has had the problem again - thank goodness!

Hope your kitty feels 100% soon!

Thank goodness is right! I'm glad to hear your cats were ok after. Here's hoping none of our boys have this problem again!

I'm glad he is feeling better. My chihuahua had the same thing happen. It was very sore at the time, but you wouldn't know he had that problem because it healed up very well. He is also a very beautiful cat:)

Thanks so much! The vet said it should heal completely within a few weeks.

My aunts cat lived to be 25 and it was around cigarette smoke and on a cat chow diet all it's life. I'm sure you'll have many more happy years together. :hug8:
