I was told by my avian to put the full spec on for my birds at 2 hours a day for about a week.. then I put it on 4 hours for a week. After 2 weeks I would leave it on for 8 hours at a time after 30 days I would leave it on for the birds 12 hours or as long as the birds were awake.

Is there a reason for that? :bored:
I was first told to move the light closer to the cage for a week while it was off so the birds would get use to it being near the cage because birds can be nervous of anything new added to its safe cage environment.

After a week with the light off you put the light on for a short period of time so the birds don't stress at the new object over their cage stressed nervous birds will sometimes stare at the light which isn't suppose to be good for the birds eyes.

Putting full spec lighting right away on your pet birds can cause your hens to start egg laying.
