you have brought tears to my eyes, both happy, and sad. how any breeder could in essence torture her so...make her breed in that condition. i am excited to see her blossum in your care! she is 100% adorable!

Gave her some veggies this morning. Switched out her treat bowl for veggies... lets just say she was less then thrilled
I think she is much older then her estimated 13 years from her owner. She sleeps a good 95% of the day. Now some could be a result of stress from a new environment but it is a lot of sleep. Hopefully it isn't anything health wise. She has an appointment with our Avian vet for 2 weeks from now as I wanted to give her some time to acclimate and allow me to actually be able to give the vet some information on her from my observations.

Bless you for taking in this troubled bird. A lump formed as I watched the video of your poor baby snooping around.Thank you so much for giving her a good home.

One thing you will probably see is that when in new places or with new people she will taste the air (or the people) to help her learn about them.

Maybe she's so exhausted from being pushed around and stressed from the other birds she was competing with. :(
Playing with toys seems like a good sign :)

I am wondering if she has cataracts? I dont know if this is something that can be treated very easily in parrots, but reading online there is some reference to vets performing surgery. Among causes, vitamin e deficiency and infection are listed. Hopefully, your vet can tell you more.

I'm glad she finally found a good home with you.

She does have cataracts [I believe]. they do offer surgery for dogs and cats- I would have to check with the local avian specialist if they offer it and if it would be an option financially and in her case since she isn't tame.

It is possible to do the surgery in birds, but I think it's a question of whether or not a vet (or perhaps even an eye surgeon for humans) would deem it worthy. Found some links about it.

Cataracts in Birds | VCA Animal Hospitals

I've been following Freedom's journey thus far into your home. The breeder is a real idiot! Poor girl! Before my cherry headed conure passed away, he was developing cataracts, and I came across eye drops that might help reverse the effects of cataracts. As per my avian vet, and the eye doctor she consulted (the one who taught her!), it is not harmful at all. So, worse case scenario, it doesn't do anything! (unless an animal is allergic to one of the ingredients?) I never did get a chance to try it out, although now my bourke parakeet is an older bird and I think she might be getting cataracts. Anyway, here's the product I was looking into.
