Urgent Egg bound budgie

One of my budgie is egg bound it has a swollen cloaca and I can feel the egg it's thanksgiving and the vet is closed today and tomorrow! I have heard that you can treat it yourself but I need advice she is still eating,drinking,etc..

Put her in smaller cage if possible. Go in to the bathroom and turn on the shower with lots of steam. Let it run until you can't see the mirror. Turn off the water, take the bird in cage in the bathroom, keep the door close. Let the steam warm her up, watch her carefully. If there is no egg after half a hour, call the nearest emergency vet and beat feet for the vet. Good luck.

Yes I hope she will be ok. I read you can massage a bit of coconut oil around the cloaca

You can soak her butt in warm water, this may help..leave her warm and quiet with some privacy,,,do you have any liquid calcium? You can also give her 2 or 3 cc's of that orally. If no egg by morning, vet time. Hope she passes it for you.

How do you know that she's egg bound and not just getting ready to lay? If she's not straining, I probably wouldn't intervene.

She has been like this for 2 Days it's very swollen.

Thanks For the support guys/gals She layed the egg today about 5 minutes ago I used some coconut oil and massaged the area left her alone for a while and when I returned she had laid the egg on her own.

Well done! I’ve had success before with olive oil just warmed in the fingers and massaged in to the cloaca with an egg-bound cockatiel as well. Nice job and I’m glad your budgie has passed her egg!

Make sure to keep her calcium level up either with calcium carbonate liquid or finely ground up tums. Cuttle bones are not enough calcium.

there are bird-specific calcium supplements via online bird stores. Go ahead and put your baby on that so she won't have this again. They go through a tremedous amount of calcium trying to lay an egg...

I will buy some liquid calcium for her but she does have 2 mineral blocks in there too.
