I am having trouble seeing much as the bird appears out of focus as the cage bars are in focus- any chance of pics without cage bars?

Stress bars can happen at any age- it is an interruption in the growth stage which can be due to illness, diet change, or other factor that causes a change in the amount of energy being put into growing the feather.

Sorry, I don't have many pics. I just saw them when he was preening. It's not daytime anymore so I doubt I can get good pics tonight. I will post more tomorrow. Here's a close up

The texture of the feathers look smooth, no dents/gaps or anything. I'm wondering if it's just the coloring

Could be either I guess. It really is not a big problem unless you are seeing them on ever new feather coming in. My macaw gets one or two from time to time on the odd feather.
