Cutest Bird Ever!!!
Fun idea for fall enrichment.
This is the beginning
A loop with big knot inside 4 soaked corn husks. Always use even number of husks. Fold the husks back to expose the loop and tie off head. Use jute, hemp, or cotton string.
These are the arms, 2 soaked skinny husks, tie in the center, you can strip these into equal number of pieces once they are center tied. Braid and tie off the ends.
Under the head, insert the arms, tie under the arms to form a waist. All knots should be on the same side. All knot are butcher knot styled.
Form the legs under the waist, you strip the husks to make thicker legs. You could braid the legs also. Tie the ends off, using butcher knots. Hang to dry, this is very important, it must dry completely.
You can draw a face on the front side using food coloring pens.
Once dried time to make the doll a boy or girl or non gender based.
Girl first:
Do the shawl by cutting a deep V in the center, fold over the body and arms. Tack in place, using knotted cotton string sewn thru the body. Tack several times back and forth until tight. As you can see the husks are Dyed prior, this was done with food coloring. The skirt is 4-5 soaked husks cut to fit the body length. They are wrapped around the body and tied tightly with butcher knots.
You can see this girl has braids, this was done at the beginning with hemp strings that were separated, braided and tied with raffia. Once again hang to dry completely.
This is the boy.
You could use these dolls as forging, by putting pellets in the braids of the arms once dried.
Any questions
