Chaz our hybrid Macaw is poorly

Spent all day today at our Vets and waiting for the blood picture to come back to let Billa our vet know what to do next.
He was acting fine on being covered last night for bed. On waking he was all puffed up and sitting with his head under his wing.
Got him to our Vet by 10.30am and he spent the morning there. Was anaethatised and his crop flushed out. x-rayed and two objects showed up well down in his system. To Billa they could be metal but does not know yet.
We rushed his bloods through our sorting office on the way home with him to rush them off before the offices closed for a four day Bank holiday.
Our Vet Billa has given me two injections a day to give him night and morning and will ring me as soon as the blood results are through.
He is still huddled on his perch but has drank loads of water. Not eaten a thing and is so thin and looking so poorly so quickly.
His urates are white and runny but he has not been eating today.
What more can I do for him? Will put him under a lamp if it should be necessary but he is quiet now and covered and resting. I am so scared for him, please is there any advice anyone can give me to make things easier for him?

Oh Ann, I am sorry to read this! I don't have any advice except to keep him warm. I sure hope the meds work soon and he is feeling better.

Would he take some warm mash off your fingers or from a syringe? Applesauce? Maybe some plain pedialite 50/50 with water or equivalent to keep him hydrated. Sending healing thoughts to Chaz!

Ann, see if you can get him to eat a mixture of Peanut butter/applesauce/sweet Potatoes...I don't know if you have these on hand and it is night there where you are now....YES keep him WARM air temp needs to be at least 85º don't know what that is in C...... I sent you an email earlier when I got you message about him...Also cooked oatmeal if possible.....Sending you POSITIVE ENERGY....keeping him hydrated (even honey/water will help)....and don't be afraid during the night to wake him up and give liquids to him....
Let us know what the vet says in AM....

Possibly offer him a water bowl mixed 50:50 with pedialyte and another with just plain water. The electrolytes would be good for him, but not if he won't drink it which is why I suggested two bowls. Otherwise, I like the suggestion of the sweet potato mash. If you can't get him to drink electrolytes maybe you can get him to eat them. When I've done it for sick birds I've done sweet potatoes with banana and maybe some coconut milk mixed in. Although Billie Faye's mix sounds good too. Chelation injections can be really rough. On the one hand, supposedly they start perking around pretty fast if that is the cause. On the other, its hard on their system and weight and appetite can stay low for a while. Supposedly peanut butter is also good for helping with zinc poisoning which might be why Billie mentioned it. Supposedly the pectin in apples helps too. Ariel was on CaEDTA injections for a misdiagnosed zinc poisoning. It was hard on her but she made it.
