Here is what Jan had to say about her gorgeous baby, Blu.
1. How did you acquire your bird?
I acquired Blu from one of my babies I had raised from 2008. I kept Blu at the time because I did not feel she was the “perfect” bird to sell as far as her body structure was. Her wings do not align in exact center of her back. Blu is fully flighted but never flies, when she does take off from a particular spot, she declines downward . I am assuming it is just more than her wings that prevent her from flying properly.
2. What is your birds name, age and sex?
Her name is Blu and she is now slightly over 5 years old, she was hatched April 4th, 2008 and is DNA sexed female.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
There are no special tricks with Blu, she’s pretty timid when it comes to trying things.
4. What are some of your birds favorite foods?
I’m going to have to say Blu is not huge on liking a variety of foods. She will eat some of the cooked birdie foods that I make up for the other birds. She use to be better about variety and was not afraid to try things but in the last year she has changed on what she seems to like.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
I can not think of anything that was funny other than she likes to imitate the sound of our home phone she is really good at it!
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
Blu makes me happy being that she is a sweet bird. Back when she was a baby while I raised her she was attracted to me a lot and we bonded from that period and she is special to me … I had renamed my bird toy site after her name back a couple of years ago too!
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
The Blue Headed Pionus specie is a great specie to own along with any of the other Pionus species as well! I tell people that they are generally easy going and are not usually noisey.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Blu is very, extremely quiet except when she rings her telephone voice but that is usually only for a minute. Other than that , she does not scream or do any call backs to the other birds. Blu’s activity is somewhat typical of a Pionus, she does like to play with her toys, loves her Jolly Ball and her Atom to hang out on during the day. Come evening, she sleeps inside her Jolly Ball up until the late evening, then I put her in her cage.
9. What are some of your birds quirks?
The only quirk about Blu is that she is on the timid side so when my husband or anyone else walk anywhere near her she tends to freak out, she’s always been that way even though she has seen my husband since she was brought in from the nest.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
Blu simply does not say any words, not even hello!
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Almonds and she will eat the A.O. Veggie Bars as well.
