Marlene
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Please join me and congratulate Marian's beautiful Amazon, Hiram! He has been chosen as Celebirdy for the month of November.
1. How did you aquire your bird?
Hiram was a rehome when his owner could no longer keep him and 3 other of his large parrots. Hiram actually chose me.
2. What is your birds name, age and sex?
His name is Hiram...or if you ask him.... Hi ram ram ram.His age is not certain...all i know is he is over 22. I've had him over 20 years and he was supposively over 2 at the time and male.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
He will sing on cue. His favorite song is Barbaranne by the beachboys.
4. What are some of your birds favorite foods?
He loves his birdy bread mixed in with veggies and nuts. His all time favorite are nutriberries. I give him two each night before bedtime.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
The funniest thing is a neighbor came by to meet Hiram. Here's how the conversation went. She asked,"What's his name?" His reply was," Hi ram ram ram." She asked "Does he talk?"
"hahaha ok... hello there. "He replied. Her reply was "oh my!
Hirams reply was a giggle and, "ok ok enough bye bye."
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
Years ago I would of told you I had no intention of having an amazon. Hiram literally picked me out of so many people. He worked on me for weeks at the pet store. One day sitting in the office...he got down from his playstand and we heard "click click click" on tile floor into the office he came and up onto my lap. He has been with me through the happiest times in my life and the hardest. I just can't tell you the happiness and joy he has brought into my life. I don't think there is a day that goes by he doesn't make me laugh and smile with things he does. Oh and he's also taught me patience.lol
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
To me amazons are like the court jesters of the parrot world. They are funny, silly and so enjoyable. They can also be "on" when something attracts them.
I guess Hiram isn't the classic amazon. He really loves most everyone. But before getting amazons do your homework. As good as he is he still keeps me on my toes.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Hiram is more of a talker than a screamer. He will sound off maybe once a day when the sun is going down and only if he's bored. Now when he does do his vocalizing you can hear him down the lane.
9. What are some of your birds quirks?
Well Hiram is not a flyer.... though he is fully flighted. He's a walker...walks to wherever he wants to go. He's kind of like my green dog. Another quirk he has is he waits until I'm on the phone to really start getting loud or talking away. One day I was on an important call and the woman said, "Ma'am I can't hear you over your child" I had to explain it wasn't my child...so to speak...it was my parrot acting like a 2 yr old.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
One day I came into the room and couldn't see him right off...so I called to him..."Hiram where are you?" He replied "Right here" he had been on the opposite side of his cage. LOL
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Nutriberries are his favorite thing in the world.
