Welcome to the neighborhood!
Hi roadies! Please join me and congratulate Featherbaby's (Astrid) Ceddy!
This is what Astrid had to say about her beautiful Ceddy.
Oh my Goodness!!! That's such a Huge surprise!!!
Ceddy says Thank You so much!!!
I'll try my best with the answers:
1. How did you acquire your bird?Oh my Goodness!!! That's such a Huge surprise!!!
Ceddy says Thank You so much!!!
I'll try my best with the answers:
Ceddy chose me during my species research when I went to have a first look in person at Alexandrines at the pet shop. I didn't plan to buy at a pet shop at all but she came climbing to the front of the cage to check me out and started flirting with me as the only one of about 8, which I considered a huge honour since she, like the others, wasn't tame at all.
2. What is your bird's name, age and sex?
Her name is Ceddy, short for "Cedrica". I'd originally named her Cedric when I got her as everyone thought she was a juvenile boy because of her strong shadow ring. Several weeks after I got her, DNA showed that she's a girl and I couldn't handle having a girl with a boy's name so I shortened it to Ceddy
I don't know her exact age but she's at least 6.5 years old now.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
Her favourite 'trick' is her 'turn-around' which I taught her just for fun at some point ... she very quickly trained me well to bring her a treat whenever she does it
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
She especially loves apple, passion fruit, blueberries, corn-on-the-cob and nuts.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
Falling of her curtain rod in her sleep (no harm done) - her face was priceless!
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
She's the reason I get up in the morning, she's great company and with her sweet, gentle nature (well, most of the time ) she gives me so much joy every single day!
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
Alexandrines are smart and independent and many are good talkers (Ceddy doesn't talk though). But they are generally not 'cuddly' birds. Most don't particularly like being touched especially on their body (there are exceptions, of course) preferring to show their love in their own ways, e.g. Ceddy loves giving me kisses or softly 'cooing' to me
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Ceddy is fairly sedentary for an Alex and also doesn't chew anywhere near as much as most Alexandrines who usually go through huge amounts of wood.
Ceddy mostly prefers softer chews like peeling the bark of her natural tree branch perches, chewing up wooden clothes pegs (metal removed), cardboard and plastic bottle tops. She also prefers climbing to flying although she's a very good flyer. She does love foraging opportunities in any shape or form.
She can be noisy at times, often flock calling when she can't see me and their flock call is pretty loud, but she also has her quiet times.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
She's a very girlie girl except that she couldn't care less about her beautiful long tail! Since she insists on sleeping on her curtain rod until I go to bed, with her back squashed against the wall, that poor tail only lasts about 4 months after moulting before it gets too damaged and needs snipping off half way up ... turning her into a duck-butt every year
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
She doesn't talk, she only speaks "Alexandrine".
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
Walnuts
Yummy sprouts:
