This month's Celebirdy is Ghost the 'Too! Here's what his owner had to say:
1. How did you acquire your bird?
I got Ghost from a rescue in Edmonton Alberta. Meikas Bird House. They were great with me.
2. What is your bird's name, age and sex?
His name was Harley but I changed it to Ghost mainly because all my animals are named after Games of Thrones characters. I was told he is 13 yrs old and is DNA sexed male.
3. Does your bird do any special tricks?
I don't know if it's a trick or not but like most Toos he can take just about everything apart.
4. What are some of your bird's favorite foods?
His favorite treat is Johns parrot butter on 12 grain bread. His favorite foods are the veggie mashes I make which have several veggies, grains, nuts and a lil fruit mixed in.
5. What is the funniest thing your bird has done?
He likes to talk/mumble back when you're giving him what for mainly for screaming his head off.
6. How has your bird enriched your life?
He has made it a challenge while adding joy and laughter.
7. What would you tell people who are considering this species?
I would tell them do your research and then go spend time at a rescue with Toos because nothing prepares you for the screaming or the biting. They are very lovely birds but you have to be prepared for a lot of noise and know what triggers it. Toos are not for the faint of heart they require a loving, understanding home. That's why I think they are so thrown away; most people don't understand them and don't give them the chance to be the birds they are.
8. What is the activity and noise level of your bird?
Very high ...he loves to play and needs lots of things to do in his cage plus he loves to scream. We have gotten it down to just certain times but he loves to do it.
9. What are some of your bird's quirks?
He loves to play like he is anting. That's where he puts a small toy or big nut on his back and lets it slide down his neck and over his head into a dish. He will do this all the time, and it keeps him from screaming so it's great.
10. If your bird talks, what is the most surprising word or sentence it has said?
When you get after him for screaming he says "OK" then does his Too dance.
11. What is your bird’s favorite treat?
It would have to be Johns Parrot Butter on 12 grain bread.
