My Nikon is a D90 with external flash.
Since you have the same brand camera, can I ask what external flash you use? I'm wanting to get another one just to have handy. (and your photos always come out heaps better, so thinking you have a really good external flash as well as camera).

ETA: my external flash is a Nikon speedlight SB-600.

the same Renae. Might be the additional lighting. I have 18 four foot tubes and 6 compacts in the bird room. I play with these to set the mood i want :D

Hmm..I actually like the first set better and here is why..

They seem to have more of an overall orangy tone in the second set and true orange (like the caique's head or Rudy's belly) aren't more orange as they are washed out and details is lost..does it make sens?

Your Nikon definitively beats the Canon for colour.

true. the oranges are disappointing right now. I'm sure it can be adjusted, if not on the Rebel, probably on a higher end Canon. I have the Nikon settings to render the most accurate colors of the birds. In case they scrap my d90 and give me a new copy I hope the color rendering is as good on it!:)

the 1st pics look a bit blurry in the details which I always admire in your pics. And the second batch look better but they seem a bit yellowish or orangeish if that makes any sense.

Yes, kinda yellowish. (Still LOVE Rudy's acrobatics, no matter WHAT camera is used )

Is there a setting for fluorescent lighting and/or could colour be set to 'cool' on the Canon? Either or both might make it more natural looking - ???

Not that I'm an expert by any means , just playing with my own new (Panasonic p&s) camera settings :p

I love the pics, they look great to me :D:thumbsup:

I've been meaning to ask you, what kind of lighting to you have for your birds? I alway slove how BRIGHT it looks. I dont think its the camera that makes it look so bright, it has to be your lighting:D

Would love to know how many lights/types of lighting you have, and why the pics always look to so bright and always so beautiful!:highfive:

I don't have a rebel, but have a G-5. This is the same color I get, especially in the kitchen area, which has the spiral screw in bulbs. Yellow...:(
If you figure out how to eliminate it, let me know. Greats pics anywho..:)

I could have lived without seeing the comparisons after adjusting and pulling up pics from the Nikon - now I want to chunk mine and buy a new camera :laughing7::laughing7:

Keep in mind the Rebel is basically an entry level DSLR, and the D90 is an enthusiast's camera . If you're going to compare, compare it to the Canon 50D, and you have a more accurate comparison.

We love our Canon XSi but then I never take good photos to begin with.:D I will have to download the owner's manual from Canon's site and look into the settings you have talked about. I have no idea where Jenni put the original but I always download the electronic one anyway. I just don't have it on this computer.

I haven't changed any of the settings on it but then Jenni and I are used to putting our photos into a very old program we have and lightening them up. We always figured it was because of how poor the lighting is in the house.
