you have a PROBLEM!!!!!
I had let Somer, Borzoi, out earlier to go potty...she was barking to come in and I opened the back door to see bloody paw prints all over the glass storm door as she was jumping up/down to come in and basically standing in bloody pools on the deck!
I opened the door and she ran into her bed! I got a warm wet towel on my way through the kitchen and headed to see what happened...Did she cut her pad or what!!!!! Course there is a trail of blood into the TV room where she lays and now blood all over her bedding...Poppa is just walking in the door and I call for him to come help....We both are talking to her and she wants no part of us looking at her foot!!!!! So I hold her head and pat her while James runs his hand down her leg as he sits next to her...the warm rag is now wrapped around her foot to clean off the blood as much as possible....
She had broken off a toe nail! Don't know how but bleeding good but no tare on the skin or pulled out any....That's good!!....So now James asks what do we have to stop the bleeding???? CAYENNE PEPPER of course!!!!!
Went and got it...Poppa PACKED the broken nail with it and it basically stopped!!!!:dance4:
He sat there on the floor with her and I made her a peanut butter sandwich...he fed her pieces of it and watched the foot...NO BLEEDING! and she wasn't licking at it either!!!!!
She is fine now and no limping or anything!!!!:dance5::hug8:

Pulled nails bleed something awful, and are prone to bleeding again later when they go tearing around like there's nothing wrong. I'm glad you figured out what the problem was!

Thank goodness the nail wasn't pulled...it was broken off about half way up! Could be she caught it between the boards on the deck..couldn't find any blood coming up the ramp, just at the door...it was an outside nail...she is doing fine! AND yes, the cayenne stopped it at once!!!
Great stuff!:hug8:

Poor girl. Glad you were able to fix her up. Cayenne pepper I think is pet owners gold when it comes to stopping bleeding. I know how fast it worked on Akoya's nail. Told the owner of the bird store about it and she'd never heard of using it. So hopefully I will have helped other people out by sharing the knowledge.
Plus it just shows what GREAT knowledge this forum has.:cool1:
