Usually I see people put there birds to sleep at 8:00pm, but I usually put my bird down at 5:00 or 5:30 once it starts getting dark, is Dante going to sleep too early, or is everyone else putting their birds to sleep too late? I take sleep very seriously when it comes to birds, because like people, their sleep affects their behavior and how stressed they get, soooo when do you guys put your feathered friends to sleep?

They start getting caged around 8 pm and BScoot and Rudy go in at 9 pm. Jackson wants to be covered around 8 pm.

I think it depends what time you have to get them up in the morning. Mine go in anywhere between 7:30 and 9 on weekdays (usually 8-8:30). I have to get them up around 7 before I go to work. Weekends they may stay up a bit later (not usually after 9) and sleep in until 9 sometimes 10. So they usually get 11 hours weekdays and 13 on weekends.

My birds want to go to sleep when the sun goes down.
They do get out to play during the day.

My birds go to bed around 7 and get up around 7. What time do your birds get up? Mine usually let me know when they are ready to start the day...Nelson is usually the first to say "good morning". Also, birds do nap during the day. Its good you take the sleep issue seriously, especially during very hormonal times.

Mine go to bed around 5:30/6, but they get up when my partner wakes up at around 6am. It just depends when you plan on uncovering them. Aim for 12 hours and you’ll be fine.

Mine are ready for bed at 5 or 5:30, but they wake up when I get up at 5 or 6.

Ella goes to bed at 10:00pm sometimes later  and no sooner if I cover her up she talks alot a pulls her cover down, so we have an understanding she doesn't need 12 hours of sleep. The littles are covered no later than 9:00pm, I uncover everyone at 7:00am and Ella is talking her morning conversations to the point one wishes I was that awake, a tad depressing as I am driving to work. :wacky:

Mine go by the light in the window. Usually by 6pm they are screaming and Jingo is yelling NIGHT NIGHT over and over again until I put them to bed. In the summer its usually about 8pm

Yeah Dante takes mini naps during the day when I pet him and he's really comfortable

Wild birds usually get sleepy when the sun is down and wake up at dawn. So time it for 12 hours of sleep. My budgies are really strict about their down time. They both settle down at 6 to 6:30 and wake up when I remove the cover. They also turn grumpy at bedtime for some reaason. That is when they both will bite me if my hands are near them.

Our littles get covered between 5:30 and 6:00. Milton gets his cover around 5:30 in the winter and 6:30 in the summer. They're uncovered at 6:30 in the morning...

I started off covering my 2 littles at 8pm but because they weren't sleepy or ready for bed they would argue for the best sleeping spot but only when covered, so now I wait until they're dozing off already and have their sleeping spot sorted until I cover them usually between 8pm and 10pm. I don't uncover them in the morning until 9am and usually they are already awake eating! They like to have an afternoon nap too :)

The boys here go to bed at 6pm. They have supper at 5pm, I shut off the "big" lights and they have one hour of quiet time while they eat. Boo will usually start yelling at 5:55pm, without fail, he is ready for bed. They are up at 6:30-7am.

All birds are up by 7:30. The little ones go to bed at 6:00, they're hormonal so I want them to go to bed earlier and get up later. Unfortunately, they wake when they wake even with a blanket or cover so that's what I'm doing now. Charlie sleeps at 7:30 and gets up at 7:30.

Everyone gets 12 hours, including chickens. The ones that are hormonal I try to give two more hours but it ain't working!!! They keep doing it!!! While looking straight at me. I've watched bird porn for two weeks now. Yesterday I went in and changed the whole room around...again.

No nesting material. I'm praying, praying, praying, no eggs.

Liz, instead of more sleep, try the opposite! Less sleep!

My birds tend to go to sleep with the sun and wake with the sun... so depending on time of year, they may get 9 to 15 hours of sleep, give or take.

Sounds like Dante is getting adequate sleep and daylight waking hours.

My birds also go to bed around 5:30-6PM. They're up now at 5AM and I keep the lights on for them.

For the longest time(years) I would get get them up at 4AM and then put them back in cages by 530 when I leave for work. Now I just get them up at 5AM and leave lights on. And they're ready for bed around 530-6pm
