Leave off the citrus, not that great for birds due to the acidity.

Half cup shredded carrot has 20 mg. Calcium. Not in the list but raw sesame seeds, one cup has 1.404 gm. Calcium. I remembered these from a lecture on avian nutrition by Phoenix Landing rescue group.

Thank you for sharing this information.
You always post such informative helpful stuff in a way that makes it easy to understand and implement.

I’ve never seen amaranth......time to start searching for this I think :)

I just found this in a different post from Lady J. I thought this was interesting to be high in Calcium. I don't know iff it's an actual food more like an additive.

Thanks Dianne! Like Zara I didn't know carrots were rich in calcium.

Awwwww - Ollie loves oranges. :(
Actually, citrus in moderation is just fine for most birds. The issue isn't actually the acidity in it, it's that it can affect the absorption of Iron in certain species of parrots or birds with Iron Storage Disease.

As the name suggests, iron storage disease is due to excessive iron in the body. It usually occurs if the bird's diet is rich in iron; foods containing too much vitamin C, and A also increase the absorption of iron in the body. Birds can have a genetic predisposition to this condition, and stress sometimes plays a major role in iron storage disease.

I’ve never used amazon. When they first launched here nearly everything I tried to purchase was not even deliverable to Aus. I haven’t looked at them since to be honest. Maybe I should try them again now they have been here for a while.

Yeah amazon here is not really easy or convenient.

I have been enjoying Pet Circle for my pet things lately. They have a better chicken and bird selection than some of the other online shops. They also have an auto delivery, which I haven't used yet. I am thinking about it for the hens' feed.

They also get the stuff to me in a few days...which as you know shipping in Aus is not the best.

I will have to check them out again as it’s been a long while since I used them or looked at their site. I get the emails from them but just never bother looking at them or using them for some reason.
I am pretty happy supporting the few stores I use so I don’t often look elsewhere.

Well that sounds perfect :) I sometimes have a hard time finding some things so it helps. I just ordered Zippy some red millet sprigs from them. I couldn't find them at the 3 pet shops I looked in yesterday. :)
