Is it okay to add a 3rd Budgie to a pair. I thought I had one female and one male but the way they act together makes me think I've got 2 females. Would it be alright to add a male? Size of their cage is like two cages big. 20171001_105748.jpg
Any information would be appreciated welcome. Not going to breed. This cage can be made into 2 cages when needed.

Looks like two females to me judging from cere color. Why do you want a male bird with them?

These two compete for everything. Thought a male would calm them down.

Two's company. Three's a crowd. Exactly the opposite of what you're thinking.

They have lots of space. 2 food and water dishes at opposite ends of cage. 2 perches with mirrors. Lilac perch from my garden and wood perch along with rope perch. Can flap wings with ease. UVA light above plus cuddle and mineral blocks.

Your cage looks like it's a 30x18, is that about right?

Still loads of room
I guess that's a matter of opinion. I'm sure the birds don't think so. So how much time do they spend locked in this "giant" cage and how much flight time do they get out of it?

They don't need to be separated. They need an "environment" (that include their cage as a base)

Budgies are naturally a pretty competitive species.
