A little story, since we're discussing fans. I had a lovely parrotlet hen. My neighbor brought over another parrotlet and stuck it in the cage with mine, I didn't want her to, I was angry that she split up her pair and this one was soooo heartbroken. Her solution was to carry it over here in a pair of gardening gloves and stuff it (no quarantine) into my cage.
When I opened the cage and let them fly out for exercise, mine turned to look over her shoulder... you could tell she was showing the new one not to fly upward toward the fan. It was adorable.
I just realized, my ceilings range from 9 to 18 feet high. That's probably why I don't have birds flying into them.
