Yesterday before it got dark I saw 2 babies, one had pink skin and the other looked rather dark skinned. At first I thought maybe it wasn't healthy but figured the parents would take care of the problem. However when I checked today I can only spot the pink baby! I checked the nest as best I could (from the outside) and then i check the cage next to the cage my pair are in (it's empty and for the babies when the at old enough) and i checked the floor but I couldn't find any sign of the possibly missing baby. I'm too scared to disturb the neat and check it, I don't wanna stress the parents. What do I do? Where did the baby go? Can the PARENTS have possibly EATEN the baby!?!?
This is my first pair of finches, and the only pair of birds i have that breed. Also never had a Bree pair. (I'm only a year into bird keeping started my second a few months ago)
I also read about the skin meaning it could be a darker color mutation, and how maybe a mouse getting into the cage but wouldn't the other baby be gone too??? Also wouldn't the parents that sit in the nest fended it off?? Or made an awful racket? I wake easily to strange or uncommon noises and my birds share my room so I basically sleep next to them, the finches are closest to me as well.
Sorry I wrote it so long >~> I just want all the bases and facts covered
