My Gran used to crochet afghans all the time in different patterns (zigzags and squares) - I'd asked if I could have some when she moved in with Mum and eventually passed away but never was able to get them as she was in Brazil, Mum in Australia and I in the U.S. Still miss them ...

That's an interesting story! Your Gran sounds like an amazing crocheter! I am actually new to this, and have made two other afghans so far, both of them being zigzaggy! Those were difficult for me, though, and would take me so long to complete properly! This afghan is made with a pattern that I have made up, and am experimenting, with different colors and borders.

Love it. Perfect colours and I prefer the stripe to the zig-zag.

She knitted, crocheted, embroidered and sewed clothes. I know how to embroider but by the time I was old enough to be interested in knitting and crocheting she had problems with arthritis and her eyesight wasn't good. I still have baby clothes she originally sewed for me. And strange things like boiled egg cozies and real cloth cockatil napkins ... as well as embroidered table top cloths. I also remember that all my mother's sheets and towels were initialled.

Thanks Lwalker! The grey looks a little darker, personally to me, when it is night and the lights are dimmed, but in the sunlight it looks a bit lighter!

Oh wow, she was very talented! I couldn't imagine being able to do all that! Crocheting is actually pretty easy if you want to learn how, but I think knitting is so much harder and I could never get the knack for it. Wow, and baby clothes! They must look amazing!

But yeah, there are many tutorials on the internet out there, if you want to learn how! The biggest thing for me was that I was clumsy and really slow at first. I would definitely start with doing simple scarves or afghans, as the patterns are repetitive and in order to finish the product, you have to repeat the steps over and over again, and by the time the product is finished, you would have memorized a lot.

After the auction is done, I'll try to start a thread with some of the things I have.
