This happened back in June, but had me so puzzled I figured I should share in case it ever happens to anyone else. I noticed my starling's wings looked a little odd when he was flying so nabbed him for a look and...
Every single secondary is snapped off beneath the coverts.
After watching him like a hawk for the next few hours, I figured out the culprit was his love of baths. He was wearing them against the edge of his water dish, the smaller bowl in this picture. I went out and bought the largest dog kennel dish I could find to replace it for him.
Now he's also worn off the tips of his primaries on the lip of the new dish. Have an even larger bowl on the way... and am eagerly awaiting the day he molts out all those battered feathers.
Little stinker even has a very nice and large bath house I set up for him, but that's not good enough I guess.
