I must just not know how to get things to freeze well. When I make chop and freeze it, it comes out as grey colored mush! Oh well...looks great! I'm glad Bebe has such a well-stocked freezer! :)

Are you blanching the veggies prior to freezing?

Trying blanching first, that means precooking it slightly before you freeze it. When I blanch veggies I plunge everything into ice water in strainer for a good couple of minutes and then let it drip dry over a big bowl.

If you are using a leafy vegetable, do you blanche those as well? Like Kale?

Edited to say, I answered my own question! I'm so proud! Lol!

I have found a University of Minnesota extension webpage that says yes to blanche the leafy greens, too! Plus it gives various blanching times for different vegetables. I didn't realize it was so complicated! :reading:

Also, I don't have an appropriate blanching pot...so I'll need to order one! Who knows, boys, you may have a well-stocked freezer soon, too!

A large pot with tight cover will work, I also use SS steamer. You can also dry those leafy greens in the microwave, and add them at feeding time.
This also works for kale, arugula, spinach, Swiss chard.

I cut to the size needed for Bebe(every bird is different) then blanch and flash chill it. Bebe likes his food a lil chunkier then most.

I’m going to have to experiment. The chop the veggies in a food processor. I can only imagine the mess it would make trying to blanch pieces that small.
