Here are some photos of only a very small number of animals we care for and treat.

I just help out doing the crappy jobs (cleaning dishes, enclosures, cages, chopping up dead animals to feed to other animals, etc.) but every single day I get to do something that totally makes up for those jobs! :D

I adore volunteering at the hospital. It makes me so happy to see all the good that is being done.

Please excuse the quality of the photos. They were taken with my phone and no flash was used (because it scares the wildlife).

Pacific Black Ducks
This momma duck and her babies were being treated for botulism. They have since made a full recovery and been released!

Eastern Long-necked Turtle
This guy had damage to his shell caused by a car. I take the turtles for a daily walk in the sun to give them some exercise. This boy has since been patched up and released.

Pied Cormorant
This baby was orphaned and needed to be handraised at the hospital. Here I am feeding him some fish by hand. He has also since been released.

Here he is begging for some more food.

Magpie-lark
This baby was also orphaned and needed to be handraised. Here I am feeding him some mealworms, crickets and fruit in an insectivore mixture. This baby is a boy and you can tell because he has white eyebrow markings (which the females lack). This baby went to a carer and has since been released.

Carpet Python
I completely forgot to check this guy's chart to see why he was in the hospital. He has been there for a very long time and no-one could get him to eat. So I decided to sit at his container for a good hour and eventually got him to grab and swallow a defrosted quail chick! He is still at the hospital.

Brisbane River Turtle
This guy came in with graffiti on his shell and just feeling generally unwell. He is still at the hospital.

Pobblebonk Frog
This little one is just not looking good and not feeling well. He is eating on his own now so hopefully it won't be too long before he is released!

Pied Cormorant, Pelican, Crested Tern and Seagull
Just an array of waterbirds in the Waterbird Rehab enclosure.

Wildlife Releases
One of the very best parts of the job is being given the opportunity to release animals back into the wild where they belong! So far I've released an Eastern Water Dragon, Seagull and Long-necked Turtle.

Here is the Long-necked Turtle returning to his home just as I released him!

Those are great pictures! I feel so bad for the turtle with the graffiti.

Yeah, he's a bit of a floater so he must have been easy to catch. :( At least someone brought him in to the hospital (and the actual pen and ink on his shell won't harm him at all).

Thanks for showing the pictures. That's a wonderful place. It must be great to work there and actually make a difference in the life of these animals.
I also feel bad for the "painted" turtle.:( But he is getting help now, at least. The long necked turtle looks so different from the turtles I have ever seen. There is a similar one in Florida..with a short neck.

Keep showing more pictures if you get the chance, please.:dance4:

Most people are a bit shocked when they see their first Long-necked turtle. :) They are very bizarre creatures.

I usually take at least one photo each week so I'll definitely have more soon!

People really, really can be cruel. :( The phone calls we get and have to deal with are often horrific. The graffiti on the shell is nothing compared to those.

But... the only way to think about it is that at least a lot of these animals do end up at the hospital. So you do need to have the mindset of "all is well that ends well". :)

Great phoos, thanks for sharing! Thank you also for volunteering to help at the rescue. Why are people so cruel and ignorant. That poor turtle! He is not a piece of paper or a brickwall. I loved all the birds!

Thank you! I do tend to take a lot of photos of the birds because they are my favourite. :o:

I should get some photos of Raptor Rehab. The birds of prey are so spectacular. It's tricky though because they often are the most stressed out patients.

Wildlife rehab is something I definitely want to get into. In fact, I am applying for my license at the end of the year once I have my Certificate. I want to specialise in birds - in particular Lorikeets. :)

nice pics I had to very quickly scroll past the snakes though

but that long neck turtle - sure earns his name :)

the one they wrote all over - ignorant kids guess bathroom walls aren't good enough any more :( and i'm sure none used 1st and last names - that would be awesome if they did though at least those ones could get in trouble for animal cruelty - but i'm sure none did :(

If its permanent maker - it should eventually wear off - everything I've ever used them on eventually wears off

 I adore snakes! My mum dislikes them intensely though so I'm going to have to wait until I buy my own house before I can get a pet one.

Nope, no first and last names. :( Mostly just doodles and signatures (and you can't really see what they say). I mean, who finds a sick turtle and then decides to write all over it!? My first instinct would be to get it to a vet!

Luckily with turtles they kind of "shed" their shells really slowly. So even if the marker doesn't wash off over time at least it will flake off (though that could take months and months)! Stupid kids.
