  • He’s 12 weeks, 13 this Saturday.

  • He’s still not weaned.

  • He (possibly she?) doesn’t make many other noises, beyond “ahhhhhhhhhhhh” and flock calling, despite my constant use of the same whistling noise.

  • Has seen a vet, is in perfectly fine health.

  • Video of the crying:

I can’t view your video for some reason, clicking it takes me to some odd page and I have no clue where your footage is 96BF0ECB-A3DF-4B5F-968C-29062615C5E6.png

He's a baby of a different species and speaking a different language ;) He knows HIS calls and is still learning YOUR calls. He largely is still running on instinct right now. It is abnormal in the wild for him to be left alone, at all, so being left alone is super scary, and then what does any baby want when they are scared? Comforted...and in a lot of species, food = comfort. Do you offer him comfort feedings at all? Some cockatiels don't wean until they are 6 months or older. They all have different needs!

This baby still looks very baby like.
Cause for delayed weaning, nutritional, kept too cold (?)or low grade infection .
I would recommend a avian veterinarian exam. Looks like you had one? I'd probably seek a second opinion. Its so common to have a crop infection .

What age did you get this baby? Is it from your birds? If from a breeder they can be a good resource to ask questions. If they've raised a lott of babies they likely have seen a lot of things that can go wrong .

I talk to him and give scritches and kisses, whistle, etc - I'm unsure how else to offer comfort..

Food :) Offer him a bit of moistened pellets or veggie baby food on a spoon, etc.

He should be pretty warm - He's in my bedroom, where it's generally the warmest in the house. We don't have central air, and the window units are only the in the front rooms. He's got two pretty good foods on offer, and he does eat both (Zupreem Fruit Blend, and Safflower Gold), he just seems to also want formula. The vet we went to is an avian specialist, he was checked for infections and what not, and came up clean. The next nearest exotic vet is... less than stellar, and looking at anyone else is at least a 2.5 hour drive which I worry would be stressful, plus there's no avian specialist, just a general exotics vet.

He's from a breeder, and she is surprised he's still being a booger about weaning. Apparently, his two clutch mates have weaned. I got him 10 weeks old, and he's 13 weeks as of tomorrow.

Did they do a crop swab at all?
