Can cockatoos whistle?

I whistle a lot to Tteok, and Isadora has started making a noise like she’s trying to mimic the tune - however she sounds a little closer to squeaky door hinges.

But it’s now occurred to me I can’t recall if toos whistle at all.

The first thing Quarter mimicked was my whistle I always did to let him now I was coming or was around. It's how I called out to him now :)

Years ago my crimson rosella could whistle the theme song to a show here called Mayberry. Henry calls my dogs by name. I don’t want to listen to whistling from them so I don’t around them. It’s bad enough Henry coughs and burps like me. God forbid I should fart around him…. I couldn’t take it!!! :laughin:

I wish I could catch her on video, it cracks me up. It’s like she’s trying to but can’t quite get it.

It’s very similar to a child making a high pitched scream because they can’t whistle. And then she ends up sounding like a door that needs a shot of oil :roflmao:

Definitely they can. I met Bittu, a SC cockatoo. When I started whistling at him, he whistled back instantly.

Can crimson bellied conures mimic? My rio is very young , but I don't think he's interested in copying anything. Instead of that, he has a lot to say in his own language.

the males can but not very well.Rocket and Casey both say their names and a couple of of other words. Mostly their own noise and neither one have the same vocals. They aren’t kept in the same room so that might attribute to their individuality as far as their calling. Rocket is my loudest bird with a repetitive alarm type call.
