What type of bird is this and what do I do?

Thanks guys. You were all right. He just recovered before we made it to the vet and suddenly perked up and flew away before we could react. Must say he was quite quite pretty and seeing him up close was both exciting and a bit scary. All ended well in my opinion.

We found a baby bird last year that had fallen out of it's nest that was in one of our trees. I called the Humane Society and within 2 hours they had someone out to our house. I placed it in a box with some tissue and water until they arrived. The Humane Society placed the bird back up in the nest. Unfortunately, it was cold that night (not sure where momma bird was) and the poor little thing froze to death. It was a lot younger than the bird you are dealing with. It was just starting to get pin feathers in at the time.

Yay! I'm so glad the little birdy recovered. And after reading all these helpful posts, now I know what to do it this happens to me! Thanks everyone!
