What Happened To My Budgie??? Sick!!!

Hey Guys

I was lucky enough to own a female budgie named Charley (I thought she was a boy when I first got her as a baby. Whoops) which I shared many happy memories with. Very sadly she got very sick and recently passed away. I do not know what was wrong with her and do not wish it to occur to my 3 other budgies. I was not able to get her to a vet as it was a Sunday and I live pretty remotely. Please help!!!

Charley was acting strange the morning I found her as she was not singing and chirping or moving around much on the perch or interacting with the other birds. I took her out and noticed that there was a lot of blood and missing feathers around her vent. After I cleaned the blood away I found a large lump that was discoloured. The lump only got larger over the next couple of days and the blood kept returning as well. On her last day she kept on going down to the bottom of the cage as she could not balance properly on the perch and that's when I knew that she wasn't going to make it.

Please help me find the disease, cure and ways of prevention. I could not bear to lose another one.

Welcome to the forum. So sorry about the terrible loss of your Charley. There could have been a myriad of issues that caused the bleeding and lump and unfortunately without a vet, can be unknown. How old was she?

There is no way to know for sure what happened unless you take her to a vet and have her examined. I'm so sorry for your loss. :sad6:

So sorry for your loss. There are many reasons that your bird became ill and passed and the best way to diagnose what was going on would have been to take her to the vet. Could have been egg binding, a growth, don't know????
Observe your other birds and if you see any issues then get them to the vet.

Thank you guys
Charley was 2 when she died.
I cannot have her examined by a vet as I have already buried her.
Thank you so much for the help though
