so i have 3 birds, one cockatiel and two budgies. i got my cockatiel when she was only 30 days old and i performed handfeeding on her for a while. now she's almost 4 years old and i was thinking that maybe its time to get her a partner. i got a baby cockatiel who was 40 days old and i thought i'll tame her and then introduce her to my adult cockatiel. the new baby cockatiel needed handfeeding. so after i got her home, i checked her crop and saw that it was almost empty. so i prepared her formula and started spoon-feeding her. she was eating like a champ, bobbing her head up and down. but all of a sudden, she let go of the spoon and fell upside down on her back. and within a few seconds, she passed away.
i'm so confused and devastated. her crop wasn't too full, there weren't any signs of aspirations beforehand and she was completely healthy.
what did i do wrong? i prepared the formula in 1:1 ratio and it wasn't too watery either.
i feel like such a failure as a bird mom.
