Hi!
Today I’m going to visit a friend who just got three chickens. I’d like to bring them something. Is there something I can buy at the supermarket that is good for the chickens and they can enjoy?
Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Not a dumb question. I am not sure what there is at a supermarket. Let me search some other threads to find some people to tag!

From what I know about chickens, they will literally eat anything! But sometimes as a treat my neighbours' chickens get cooked pasta.

Incidentally, so do my in-laws' ducks. Watching a duck eat spaghetti is a sight to behold

Next time you go, videos needed :roflmao:
Unfortunately the old ducks/geese used to love spaghetti. The new ones are terribly picky :laughing2: They won't even eat a snail/slug if it's too big...I mean, that's their job! We don't call them the "slug patrol" for nothing!

I have found that chickens like large leafy greens, but the pasta idea sounds really cute (take pics if you do it :D)

Well my girls love rolled oats as a treat. They do just about anything for them.

Also great project treats are mangos or sweet potato or pumpkin something like that. They will peck on them for awhile and can revisit as they want. :)

My friend used to give her roo mini marshmallows.

Chickens def have their favourites. My hen Luna loves strawberries, but Starlight won't touch them.

They will try most things so anything you bring will be exciting to them.

The pasta is a cute idea.

I have found chickens like what they don't have. Since mine free range a bit each day and always get our veggie scraps they are not excited about leafy greens in the morning. They get more stoked for fruits, melons or pumpkins things we eat less often :)

Thank you all so much. This already is so helpful!
I am so excited that you are bringing treats for your friend's chickens. They are wonderful beings. If it is your first time meeting them this is a great way to get on their soft spot. They are going to love you!

No pictures unfortunately. They are just 20 weeks old and they are still afraid of everything that is new. So my friend put it in the fridge and is going to try today again and mix it with their pellets.
But no worries. There is always a next time and I’ll definitely take some pictures them that I’ll show here!
Thank you all for helping me!
